Privacy Policy

The short version. Peering has no accounts and collects nothing. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDK in the app. Your screen, audio, keystrokes, pointer input and clipboard travel between your own two devices inside one encrypted connection, and the relay that carries it when you are away from home is built so that it cannot read any of it.

1. Who this is from

Peering is an app for iPhone that connects to a companion app on your own Mac. This policy covers both apps, and the relay server that lets them reach each other across the internet. For anything in here, including any request about your data, write to [email protected].

2. What stays on your devices

The app works without an account, so there is no profile of you anywhere except on the hardware you are holding. This is the complete list of what the apps keep, and all of it lives on your iPhone or your Mac:

Your device identity. Each device generates its own key when you first open the app and keeps it in that device's Keychain. It never leaves the device.
Paired Macs. The name, public key and last-connected time of Macs you have paired with, so they can be listed and reconnected to.
Session history. The last 30 sessions: when they started, how long they lasted, which connection path they used, and the duration. Used to show your own usage, including how much relay time is left in the current 24-hour period.
Clipboard items. The 12 most recent pieces of text you pulled from your Mac are kept on the iPhone until you clear them.
Your settings. Preferences such as whether relay connections are allowed, whether Face ID is required to open the app, and your Mac's name.

Deleting the app removes all of this. Nothing above is sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.

3. What the relay handles

When your two devices are on different networks they cannot reach each other directly, so they both connect outwards to a relay server which introduces them and copies bytes between them. To do that job it handles:

your Mac's device ID and its name;
your iPhone's device ID;
the protocol version your apps are speaking;
which plan your app says it is on, so the right allowance can be applied;
how many seconds of relay time each device has used in the current 24-hour period;
the relay access key, for connections made with a paid plan;
the IP address of each device, which any server necessarily sees.

The relay cannot read what it carries. The control channel is a TLS session belonging to your two devices. The relay copies the encrypted bytes without terminating it and has no key for them. Video, audio, keystrokes, pointer input and clipboard text are sealed separately with keys your devices exchanged with each other and never disclosed to the relay. This is a property of how it is built, not a promise about how it is operated.

The relay writes nothing to a database. Sessions and usage counters are held in memory for as long as the process runs and vanish when it restarts. The server keeps ordinary operational logs, which record that a session was allocated and the device IDs and Mac name above, and never any content. Those logs stay on the server and follow whatever retention the machine's logging is configured with.

4. What we never do

We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone.
We do not run analytics, crash reporting, advertising or attribution SDKs in the app.
We do not build a profile of you, and there is no account to attach one to.
We do not read, store or inspect what passes through the relay.
We do not send your Mac's screen, sound or input anywhere other than your own iPhone.

5. Purchases

Every paid plan is a subscription, and all of them are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app whether an entitlement is active; we never see your name, your card or your billing address. Apple's handling of that information is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

When a paid plan is active, the app tells the relay which plan it is on, and the relay applies that plan's allowance instead of the free one. It also sends a relay access key: a random identifier generated on your device, not tied to your Apple Account or your identity, and stored in your device's Keychain. It is what the relay would use to recognise a device that has been given unlimited access directly.

6. This website

This site is a handful of static files. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, and has no sign-up, comments or contact form. It is served through Cloudflare, which handles connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse.

7. Your rights

Privacy law in the European Union and the United Kingdom gives you the right to see, correct, export or delete the personal data held about you, to object to its processing, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Because Peering has no account and no database of users, in practice there is almost nothing for us to act on: the data described in section 2 is on your devices, under your control, and deleting the app removes it. The one exception is the relay's operational logs, which are described in section 3. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days.

8. Children

Peering is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 13, or under the minimum age at which a person may consent to online services in their country.

9. Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the new version appears here before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept it.
